NORDHAVNEN (Copenhagen, Denmark)

In 2008 CPH City and Port Development launched an open international ideas competition about the development of Nordhavnen (the northern part of the harbor in Copenhagen). The 3 winning urban designs presented a structure plan for Nordhavnen and a detailed development plan for Inner Nordhavnen. In 2014 the development of the Inner Nordhavnen has already started and  CPH City and Port Development expects that this part will be fully developed in 2025. The structure plan should be designed more detailed. Therefore it is necessary to rethink and to redesign the structure plan for Nordhavnen.

This is exactly what we asked you in this project:  Redo, rethink and redesign the competition from 2008 by focusing on the “structure plan area” of Nordhavnen. (excluding Inner Nordhavnen). Make a new spatial concept of the area, develop a structure plan of the area and design a detailed development plan of parts of it.

You are requested to submit a spatial concept for the urban development of Nordhavnen and to illustrate it in an overall structure plan for the entire Nordhavnen and in a detailed development plan for parts of it. In addition, you are requested to present a strategy for the realization of those plans.

Design week 2: visiting the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam

Design weeks

The first design week is on the project site in Copenhagen. We start with a guided tour in Nordhavnen to visit the realization of phase 1 and to get lectures by the project team of CPH. After that you develop a concept of your design. The lunch breaks will be used for short excursions into the city on various topics. In the second design week we visit Maasvlakte 2 as reference project of a recent harbor extension in the Netherlands.
