Objective:
A strategic urban design concept
Innovative design strategies are able to react on changing conditions in urban design developments. The classical urban design development plan, “the masterplan” has to be supplemented by flexible design instruments to become a strategical tool in a dynamic planning process. This strategic urban design concept enables to derive small scaled, temporary or informal urban interventions. The strategic urban design plan ensures the spatial quality of a sustainable long term development on different scale levels and embeds the small scaled architectural “just in time objects” sensitive.

Research method:
In real-labs multidisciplinary teams analyze and research the urban potentials.
The developed design instruments are tested in “research by design” formats.
The prestigious standard of urban design plans made by Netherland, results in integral development processes. Architectural, infrastructural, economic, social, ecological and legal interconnections are integrated in a dynamic urban design process from the very beginning. Urban Nomads researches the mutual interaction of the specific disciplines in the design process and develops spatial quality standards of the spatial results of the urban planning.
Therefore Urban Nomads applies strategical urban research units: the real-labs. In these labs specific urban design phenomes are analyzed to develop, in collaboration with local experts, first concepts and spatial conclusions. The applicability of these results are tested and evaluated in various case studies. This research principle enables us to develop generic design instruments on one hand. On the other hand we are able to prove the specific spatial quality of comparable locations and to develop it sensitive and linked to the context. This research method enables us to collaborate and to interact with different partners, disciplines and experts according to the needs of the case. A multidisciplinary case study approach integrates universities, institutions and stake holder in sustainable urban development strategies and requires an experimental research approach. |
