TIDELANDS ISLANDS SCHIERMONNIKOOG
International architecture and urban design workshop
09 May - 12 May 2016
Is it a responsible opportunity to build on the coastline? And if we do so, how should we deal with the sensitive characteristics of the landscape? Is there a touristic alternative to the existing camping and the B&B’s? Are temporally or seasonally solutions a suitable concept for the dynamic characteristics of the tideland and its islands. In this workshop you will make a concept design for a small touristic residence on the Frisian Island Schiermonnikoog.
To understand better the tideland will start this design week by walking to the island (mud hiking). On the island we will stay on the camping on Schiermonnikoog, so you need to bring a tent, a sleeping bag and a camping mat. You will get breakfast and dinner on the island.
You will work on concept sketches and concept models in mixed groups of international students. You’ll use the design week to look carefully at the area and the specific characteristics of the island. You’ll make a concept design for a touristic domestication. You’ll present your concept to experts who are familiar with the island.
This workshop is part of the expedition < ISLANDS > and the track < WADDEN SEA >. For more information see TRACK WADDEN SEA / EXPEDITION ISLANDS
